Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein is a highly specialized fibrous protein. Keratin is naturally occurring, and is the key structural material making up hair, nails, feathers, horns, claws, hooves, calluses, and the outer layer of skin among vertebrates. Through the process of hydrolysis, the keratin is broken down into its amino acid/protein components. Hydrolyzed keratin is primarily used as a skin and hair conditioning and moisturization agent. In hair it can restore luster, body and increases manageability. Keratin is distinct from other proteins in that it is rich in cysteine (a sulfur-containing amino acid) giving keratin a unique strength and protective quality. Keratin also protects epithelial cells from damage or stress. Hydrolyzed Keratin revitalizes the hair's natural protective layer, rebuilds tensile strength, returns elasticity and reduces breakage.
