Pyrogallol is a derivative of gallic acid with a variety of applications from photography to hair dye to gas analysis. It is a white water soluble compound.
Pyrogallol is an organic compound with the formula C₆H₃(OH)₃. It is produced though the heating/decarboxylation of Gallic Acid. Its uses include hair dye, dyeing of suturing materials and oxygen absorption in gas analysis. It also has antiseptic properties. Pyrogallol was also used as a developing agent in black-and-white developers. It is also used in isolation of inert gases from a mixture of gases, which requires absorption of oxygen from the mixture. It has applications in electronics and the semiconductor industry.
